Three more operators win 3G licenses in Indonesia.(PT Natrindo Telepon Seluler and PT Cyber Access)(Brief article)
Asia Pacific Telecom, March, 2006
Several companies participated in the bid, while PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia and PT Bakrie Telecom failed to get the licenses, as their offers did not meet the reserve of $10.84 million. A report added that Indosat offered to pay $17.34 million, while Telkomsel has tendered $23.62 million, and Excelcom agreed to pay $20.37 million.
The licenses are valid for 10 years. Indonesia has already allotted two 3G licenses to mobile operators PT Natrindo Telepon Seluler and PT Cyber Access. However, though Natrindo and Cyber Access have 3G licenses since 2003 and 2004, respectively, these two operators have yet to commence their commercial operations, due to the country's lack of 3G networks and the need for massive initial investment.
