Telecom New Zealand confirms sale of 90 percent stake in Telecom Samoa Cellular.(Digicel to acquire Telecom Corporation of New Zealand Ltd.)(Brief article)

Telecom New Zealand has confirmed the sale of its 90 percent stake in Telecom Samoa Cellular to Digicel (Samoa) Limited. The financial details of this deal were not disclosed. Telecom Samoa Cellular undertakes its operations as a TDMA mobile network serving around 33,000 users. It plans to upgrade to a GSM network later this year.
New Zealand Telecom general manager Anthon Briscoe said that his company was interested in Telecom Samoa Cellular Limited since it created the firm in a joint venture with the Samoan government in 1996.
