PT Bakrie Telecom granted license to operate international landline services.(INDONESIA)

The government of Indonesia has granted a license to mobile operator PT Bakrie Telecom for operating international landline call services.

The director general of post and telecommunication, Basuki Yusuf Iskandar, said that Bakrie Telecom has been able to meet all requirements for operating these services. Bakrie will create a fixed-line gateway to allow users to make international calls. Bakrie Telecom will be given five years to create its first network and international gateway that will connect Singapore, Batam, and the US.

The US-based Verizon Communications will help the company to deploy the gateway. Bakrie Telecom will require around $23.68 million for developing the gateway. However, the government would impose a fine on the operator if it...
