NTT DoCoMo and KTF to invest $200 million for acquiring 33 percent stake in U-Mobile.(JAPAN)

Korea-based cellular operator KT Freetel and Japan's NTT DoCoMo will invest $200 million for acquiring a 33 percent stake in Malaysia's 3G license holder U-Mobile Sdn Bhd. This deal, which awaits regulatory clearance, has witnessed KTF and NTT pledging $100 million each for getting equal parts of the 33 percent holding in U Mobile.
The voting rights would allow these companies to take part in the management of the firm. The investment has increased the valuation of U-Mobile to $607.41 million. The company would also receive $80 million capital investment from its parent firm, U Telecom Media Holdings Sdn Bhd. DoCoMo and KTF are planning to encourage global roaming services via the 3G network of U-Mobile for their users who travel to Malaysia. According to KTF,...
