Bhutan Telecom selects AboveNet's IP Transit service to launch Internet via fiber-optic cables.(BHUTAN)

AboveNet Communications UK Ltd., which provides fiber-optic solutions to business and carriers worldwide, said that it has provided a new IP Transit service to Bhutan Telecom. Through the delivery of the IP Transit, Bhutan Telecom's subscribers would be able to access speedy, reliable Internet services via fiber-optic cables for the first time.
Until now, Bhutan has been heavily dependant on satellite links to receive Internet services. This transaction is indicative of Bhutan Telecom's commitment to enhancing the quality and speed of its Internet service and making it affordable to its customers.
The company used an overseas company's submarine fiber-optic link to connect London through Mumbai. It then bought a circuit to London for linking the IP...
