PLDT unveils new VoIP service for Filipinos living and working abroad.(PHILIPPINES)
Asia Pacific Telecom, June, 2008
According to the Inquirer newspaper, Philippine Long Distance Telephone (PLDT) has unveiled a VoIP product for Filipino people living overseas. Although company officials admit that this decision could adversely affect its ILD (international long-distance) business, they argue that the company would offset losses by signing up new subscribers to the new VoIP service for just $0.014 per minute.
This service, named PLDT Talkpad, also enables the users of Smart Communications and PLDT to make calls and send SMSs to other users at domestic long-distance prices.
