AIS gets NTC's permission to unveil 3G services.(THAILAND)(Advanced Info Service PCL)(National Telecommunications Commission)(third generation wireless technology)(Brief article)

Thailand's National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) has permitted AIS to go ahead with its commercial 3G (third-generation) cellular services on the 900MHz frequency band in Chiang Mai in June. According to Suranant Wongwittayakumchorn, the secretary-general of the NTC, this decision implies that AIS will launch a full-fledged commercial 3G service.

The operator has also been allowed to import HSPA (high speed packet access) for upgrading its services to 3G. Mr. Wongwittayakumchom said that AIS, the biggest mobile phone operator in the country, does not need a new license to upgrade the current 900MHz spectrum.
