NTT, Nissan, and Sharp create a mobile phone that can work as an intelligent key.(JAPAN)

Asia Pacific Telecom, October, 2008

Japan-based mobile service provider NTT DoCoMo, Nissan Motor, and consumer electronics firm Sharp have developed a cellphone which can also play the role of an "intelligent key" for automobiles by using Nisan's intelligent key system.

This system uses two-way cellular communications technology, which is capable of locking and unlocking the car door and starting and stopping the engine. This convergence of mobile and automobile technologies is attributed to Sharp's mobilephone development, DoCoMo's know-how in the marketing aspect, and technical support provision by Nissan. This product is likely to be commercially available in the early part of 2009.
