China Telecom, November, 2000
Competition for China's fast-growing Internet service market is heating up, and newcomer China Network Communications is ready to grab a big slice of it. By year-end, China's third-largest telecom operator is set to launch its Internet data services to almost 100,000 subscribers in 17 cities (most of them along the eastern seaboard) according to a story from Internet source, ChinaOnline.
The 9,600-km network now comprises three sections (Beijing-Wuhan-Guangzhou, Beijing-Tianjin-Shanghai, and Shanghai-Xiamen-Guangzhou). In 2001, it will expand by another 15,000 km to cover 33 cities further inland.
