China Mobile Selects Openwave and Siemens to Enable Wireless Internet Services in China.(Brief Article)

Openwave Systems Inc., the combination of Phone.com and Software.com and Siemens announced that the companies have been chosen by China Mobile Communications Corp. (CMCC), China's largest mobile carrier and the world's largest single operator network, to supply mobile Internet services to subscribers in China, including four of CMCC's largest markets.

Under the terms of the agreement, CMCC will be using the Openwave WAP-compatible UP.Link Server and Mobile Management Server (MILLIONS) subscriber auto-registration technology to enable wireless Internet access to over half of its subscriber base. CMCC had more than 66 million subscribers at the end of 2000 and is the country's dominant operator, owning 80 percent of the cellular market share in China.
