China Mobile to Launch 2.5 Generation Mobile Communications Service in Near Future.(Brief Article)

China Mobile, the dominant wireless carrier in mainland China, announced that it would soon launch 2.5 generation mobile communications services, or GPRS services, in an effort to strengthen its current position in China's wireless market.

The move is regarded as a response to its only competitor China Unicom's massive CDMA network build-out plan. China Unicom's CDMA project calls for an initial investment of RMB12 billion (US$1.46 billion) to support a projected 15 million subscribers.
