Motorola/Hutchison Telecom Launch GSM Service in Macau.(global system for mobile communications network)(Brief Article)

Motorola, Inc. and Hutchison Telecommunications (Hong Kong) Limited announced the commercial launch of a second generation (2G) dual band wireless mobile network in Macau, a special administrative territory of the People's Republic of China. Motorola has installed macro and micro Global System for Mobile (GSM) 900/1800 MHz communications network base stations throughout the territory to support this launch.

The contract includes installation of cell sites to serve an estimated 450,000 people throughout the territory. The network installation will allow Hutchison Telecom in Macau to upgrade the system in the future to General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) technology by adding a packet controller unit and a gateway support node core network, as well as a software upgrade.
