China Netcom to Join GRIC Communications Broadband Wireless Network. (Other Developments).(Brief Article)
China Telecom, November, 2001
GRIC Communications Inc. and China Netcom Corp., Ltd. will offer high-speed broadband wireless access to the Internet and corporate networks to business travelers in China. China Netcom will make its network of Wi-Fi (802.11b) compliant broadband wireless access points available to members of the GRIC Alliance Network. China Netcom has a total of 13 active wireless access points in China, and will have more than 60 by early 2002.
As part of the company's strategic goal to empower the mobile office, GRIC created the world's first wireless network in April, when it announced that it was it was expanding its GRIC Alliance Network to include 802.11b compliant broadband wireless access.
