Sumitomo to build optical fiber, cable plants in China. (Optical Communications).(Brief Article)

Sumitomo Electric Industries Ltd. (SEI) announced it has started construction of optical fiber and optical cable manufacturing plants in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, China.
Since the establishment of its optical fiber and cable production subsidiary, Sumitomo Electric Optical Fiber and Cable (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd. (SEFC) in July 2001, SEI has been applying to the Chinese government to increase the capital of this new company. It was given approval last December.
SEFC will manufacture ordinary single-mode fibers as well as loose-tube cables widely used in China and other parts of the world, the company said. The company added that optical cable manufactured by the new company will be sold to Chinese telecommunications carriers such as China Telecom and...
