Alcatel wins multimillion US dollar project with Guangdong Telecom for DSL expansion. (Broadband and Optical Networks).(digital subscriber line)(Brief Article)

Alcatel announced that it has been awarded a multi-million US Dollar contract by Guangdong Telecom, a provincial subsidiary of China Telecom to expand the broadband access network in southern China's Guangdong Province. The contract, won through Alcatel Shanghai Bell, covers most regions of Guangdong Province including Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Zhongshan, Fuoshan, and Shantou.

Guangdong Telecom was the first service provider to introduce Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) broadband access service in China. With this expansion, its DSL network capacity will be boosted to 600,000 lines. The company has long-term business alliance with Alcatel Shanghai Bell since its inception in 1996.
