NTT DoCoMo plans to acquire a minority stake in two companies that have subsidiaries in China. NTT is a mobile phone service provider in Japan. NTT will pay $4 million to acquire a stake in Emcore Technology Inc. Emcore owns the information-service Beijing Lingtu Spacecom Technology Co. in China.

Similarly, NTT will purchase a stake in Digital Media Group Co. for $4.2 million, which in turn owns the Beijing Eastlong Technology Development Co. that supplies digital advertisement service to the Shanghai subways and stations. The deal will be finalized in January 2005. NTT has acquired the stakes as part of its efforts to provide telecommunications services in one of the biggest markets.
