Ericsson expects China may delay the distribution of 3G licenses.(Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson)(Brief article)

Ericsson said that the issuing of 3G licenses by the Chinese government could begin by September 2006. The Swedish firm earlier said that China may issue the licenses by June 2006 and that the end of 2006 could complete the roll-out. In a business conference, Johan Adler, head of Ericsson's operations in Hong Kong, said, "There is an obvious risk that handing out the 3G licenses in China will be delayed to the third quarter." Global telecom equipment makers Ericsson, Siemens, Motorola, and Nokia are waiting for the commencement of 3G services in the Middle Kingdom, where the would-be licensees are expected to spend up to $12 billion in capital expenses for new telecom equipment.
