China Telecom, September, 2007
According to XFN Asia, quoting the official Shanghai Securities News, which cites China Netcom vice president Zhu Lijun, China Netcom Group has no plan to purchase the CDMA or GSM networks of China Unicom. Zhu said that the restructuring of the telecom industry would be guided by developments decided upon by the Chinese State Council and not by the telecom companies themselves.
Media reports suggest that China Telecom's restructuring will involve the purchase of China Unicom's CDMA network, while China Netcom will merge with China Unicom to co-develop WCDMA services.
