Alcatel-Lucent and Hong Kong Broadband Network deploy GPON in Hong Kong.(FIBER OPTICS)

Hong Kong Broadband Network (HKBN) and Alcatel-Lucent announced a contract for the deployment of a Gigabit passive optical network (GPON) for the first time in Hong Kong. The contract will also undertake network maintenance.

The FTTH solution by Alcatel-Lucent helps HKBN to offer enhanced triple-play services to its users and expand its FTTH network in Hong Kong.

This network is expected to enter commercial operation by January 2008. With the advent of HDTV and better multimedia applications, the demand for advanced data and multimedia services is likely to escalate in Hong Kong. Under the contract, Alcatel-Lucent will provide its 7342 Intelligent Services Access Manager Fiber-to-the-Home (ISAM FTTU) solution.
