China Unicom to spend more than 20 billion yuan to upgrade its GSM network.(TOP NEWS)

China Unicom is planning to invest moire than $2.81 billion for upgrading its GSM (global system for mobile communications) network in the country.
According to the Beijing Times, China Unicom chairman Chang Xiaobing stated that the mobile firm would hike its investments in its GSM networks in 2008.
China's second-biggest cellular operator does not plan to raise money before the upcoming telecom industry restructuring. Under the restructuring, China Telecom would acquire China Unicom's CDMA business, while the latter's GSM business would me merged with China Netcom.
