China Telecom plans to roll out wireless network in Southern China's 21 provinces.(WIRELESS)

China Telecom, April, 2008

China Telecom, the biggest landline service provider in the country, plans to expedite the deployment of its Wi-Fi services and hopes to roll out a wireless network rollout in 21 provinces in southern China.

A senior official at Guangzhou Telecom said that the company plans to intensify its focus on the wireless communications segment in order to offset the drastic reduction in its landline user base. He added that the wireless network deployment would increase the competitiveness of China Telecom.

Meanwhile, news reports suggest that China Telecom will acquire China Unicom's CDMA network during the restructuring of the Chinese telecom industry.
