Huawei, GSMA, and others tie up to boost 3G integration in consumer devices.(WIRELESS)

China Telecom, December, 2008

The GSMA, Huawei, KTF, Rogers Wireless, Smart, Softbank, Telecom Italia, Telefonica, Telstra, and Vodafone have formed the Embedded Mobile Initiative to address the needs of the embedded mobile devices market. They will start marketing a common application programming interface (API) that will allow the makers of consumer goods to make their products 3G mobile network-compatible.

The initiative will result in cheaper 3G mobile devices and boost the integration of 3G modules in different devices.
