Orbcomm announced that Hitachi Construction Machinery Co. Ltd. (HCM), a division of Hitachi Ltd., has selected the Orbcomm system through negotiations with Orbcomm's Japanese service licensee, Orbcomm Japan, to monitor, track, and control its fleet of general purpose hydraulic excavators.
The Information Excavator system, developed by HCM in partnership with Orbcomm Japan, will convey vital equipment status and performance data to fleet managers via Orbcomm's global wireless network. This system is the first of its kind worldwide for general purpose hydraulic excavators and is expected to be commercially available later this summer.
