Saab Ericssson Space has delivered payload equipment for the Thuraya D3 satellite to Boeing Satellite Systems in the US. The company supplied C-band frequency converters to the satellite payloads of three different types. The Thuraya satellite system is operated by Thuraya Satellite Telecommunications Company of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The system is the first successful direct-to, mobile satellite communication system.

The Thuraya mobile satellite system gives users access to wireless voice and data links in a large service area comprising Europe, North and Central America, the Middle East and Central and South Asia.
