European Telecom, April, 2007

Ericsson will provide the first HSPA-enabled 3G/WCDMA commercial network to mobile operator Telemig Celular in Brazil. Ericsson would also modernize the operator's current network across the Minas Gerais state in the country. As per this agreement, Ericsson would deliver 3G/WCDMA core and radio networks, which includes HSDPA.

The firm would be responsible for providing network deployment and business consulting services. Telemig CEO Andre Mastrobuono said that the firm's main priority is to boost the digital opportunities in the region. He added that HSPA is the optimum technology for the company to provide good-quality services like voice calls. Telemig had over 4.6 million subscribers at the end of 2006, a market share of 5 percent.
