BSkyB extends offer for acquiring Amstrad by two weeks.(UNITED KINGDOM)

British Sky Broadcasting Group has extended the takeover offer for computer/ electronic hardware-maker Amstrad to September 4. The firm has obtained acceptances for 85.9 percent of its stock. BSkyB has offered $253 million for the buyout of Amstrad. Earlier, The Office of Fair Trading said that it was contemplating referring this case to the Competition Commission, as there are some allegations made that this deal is anticompetitive. Amstrad supplied nearly 30 percent of the set-top boxes bought by Sky in the current year to June 30. Via the set-top boxes, viewers can get digital free-view channels apart from the usual channels.
