Huawei Technologies, a telecom equipment supplier of China, has been chosen by Bulgaria's TransTelecom for deploying a commercial WiMAX network. Huawei stated that the network would blanket central business districts as well as hotspots in cities like Sofia and Varna.
The deal entails the provision of WiMAX solutions in the 3.5GHz frequency band and delivery of terminals, in addition to a key upgrade of TransTelecom central exchange equipment. Huawei stated that the new network is likely to start its operations in 2008. The company did not reveal commercial details of the deal.
