Vivendi holding buyout talks with Neuf Cegetel.(FRANCE)(Brief article)

Vivendi has said that it is presently holding talks with Neuf Cegetel shareholders for a takeover. France-based newspaper Le Fiagaro stated that its SFR mobile unit is in the process of negotiating a $7.2 billion bid. SFR has taken over 40.5 percent of Neuf Cegetel. A Vivendi spokesperson refused to disclose details of the discussions.

The merger would combine France's second-biggest Internet operator with the country's second-biggest mobile operator. According to Le Figaro, Neuf Cegetel and Vivendi have presented their plan before the Finance Ministry.
