Worldwide 4G user base to exceed 90 million by 2013.(MARKET INTELLIGENCE)(Brief article)

According ABI Research, the worldwide 4G-subscriber base is likely to go past 90 million in 2013. 4G technology includes WiMAX and Long Term Evolution (LTE). By the end of 2007, there were 3.7 billion mobile users across the world, out of which, 2.7 billion were on EDGE/ GSM/GPRS networks. ABI Research also stated that the global WCDMA user base reached 180 million in the Q4 2007.

It suggests that the migration to HSPA and LTE would take place in 2010. Analysts believe that most of the service providers would not be able to make the transition to LTE, since the maximum data rates of 50Mbps uplink and 100Mbps downlink are only possible on a 20MHz frequency band.
