Portugal Telecom plans to unveil DTH.(PORTUGAL)

European Telecom, April, 2008

Portugal Telecom's PT Comunicacoes division intends to incorporate its "Meo" service into DTH satellite television package by this summer.

The company's new DTH channels would be transmitted via the Hispasat satellite to give competition to Zon TV Cabo, the new banner of TV Cabo's satellite and cable TV services. PT Comunicacoes has been keen to expand the coverage of its Meo IPTV service, which has around 21,000 subscribers. Zon TV Cabo increased its market share to 80 percent and has drastically improved its position in the market, which is hurting the businesses of smaller players, as they are unable to get proper access to the television content. PT Comunicacoes has also decided to spend $65 million for buying satellite capacity.
