A real SAAB story.(Air Mail)(Letter to the Editor)

When buying the October 2004 issue of WINGS here in Sweden, I was intrigued to see a small picture of a SAAB 105 (Sk 60 in Swedish Air Force service) trainer/light attack aircraft in U.S. markings on the cover! It wasn't until I removed the rather large local price sticker that I realized it was a picture of the Fairchild T-46 trainer, as the cockpit canopy and nose seem almost identical to the much older Swedish design.

This together with the shoulder-mounted wings provided me with enough visual cues to instinctively ID the plane as a SAAB 105 without a moment's hesitation, until I saw the tailplane, that is. Seeing as the T-46 was designed at a time when Fairchild was in partnership with SAAB on the SF-340 feeder liner project, one can't help wondering if...
