VSNL Set to Slash Bandwidth Rates.(Brief Article)

India Telecom, November, 2000

Videsh Sanchar Nigam Ltd. (VSNL) is likely to slash bandwidth prices next month. VSNL is presently negotiating with Telecom Italia for sourcing 465 Mbps of additional bandwidth. A procurement deal is likely to be firmed up by month-end.

Besides VSNL, private Internet service provider (ISP), Caltiger.com is planning to make available bandwidth at substantially reduced rates by December 2000 through its first private gateway in Calcutta.

VSNL has already initiated the bidding process for bandwidth tenders for the South Asian region. "Bandwidth prices have come down sharply in the international market and VSNL will pass on the price benefit to the customers, sources said. Industry sources expect at least a 25 percent reduction in bandwidth prices.
