Seven mobile phone companies with a subscriber base of 56 million across Asia have announced a joint venture that would develop technology to build a common service platform across the region. These companies include PT Telkomsel, Singapore Telecommunications, Taiwan Cellular Corp., Optus Globe Telecom of the Philippines; and Malaysia's Maxis Telecommunications Bhd.
The companies will initially invest a total of $30 million to $40 million in the Bridge Mobile Alliance. The alliance will focus on developing a system that allows subscribers from each network to use similar technology available to them at home when they use Bridge Mobile networks overseas, according to the statement issued.
