The three Japanese partners in the Robe River iron ore operation in Western Australia, Mitsui & Co. (33%), Nippon Steel Corp. (10.5%) and Sumitomo Metal Industries (3.5%), have filed a lawsuit against the main operator, the London-based Rio Tinto group (53%). Mitsui Iron Ore Development Pty Ltd, Nippon Steel Australia Pty Ltd and Sumitomo Metal Australia Pty Ltd are suing North Mining Ltd, North Ltd and Rio Tinto Ltd (Rio Tinto's Australian arm) for breach of contract regarding Rio Tinto's cancellation of a 340 km railway to carry iron ore from the new West Angelas development to Robe River's existing infrastructure.
