Mining Journal, February, 2002
As a part of the continuing process of bringing together mining, mining finance and sustainable development interests, a workshop was hosted by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the World Bank Group and the Mining, Minerals and Sustainable Development Project (MMSD) at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris last week. Speakers delivered papers expressing the views of investors, mining companies, consulting organisations, institutes and government. The papers may be found at www.mineralresourcesforum.org.
The World Bank and UNEP agreed to lead and support further dialogue on the issue with the purpose of creating clear best-practice guidelines that satisfy sustainability objectives, for governments, investors and mining companies.
