Higher prices for polyester fibre

Advances in Textiles Technology, August, 2008

Advansa, which describes itself as Europe's largest polyester fibre manufacturer, has raised its prices in response to the increased costs of raw materials (particularly paraxylene), energy and other costs. Following recent increases, the company says the price of paraxylene has reached levels of [euro]100 [t.sup.-1] above any expectations for July 2008:in June it cost [euro]950 [t.sup.-1]; by July, this had increased by [euro]135 [t.sup.-1]. In order to secure a viable business, Advansa has therefore increased its prices by [euro]0.10 [kg.sup.-1], with effect from 11 July, on top of all current agreements.

Advansa's Vice President Marketing & Sales Heinz Meierkord commented" I know that this increase will put many businesses into equally difficult situations. However, in order to maintain a functional industry, these cost increases have to go down the value chain now."
