Conti, Toyo swap tyre capacity. (Continental AG, Toyo Tire & Rubber Co. Ltd.)

FRANKFURT, WEST GERMANY-Continental AG and Toyo Tire & Rubber Co. Ltd have agreed to establish joint manufacturing ventures at three of their plants, giving Toyo its first passenger car tyre production capacity in Europe and North America and extending Conti's presence in Japan.

Conti also has completed its tyre manufacturing joint venture negotiations with Mabor SA in Portugal, where the two firms will invest Esc 27.5 billion ($183 million) to quadruple capacity.

The agreement with Toyo includes expansion plans that will effectively double capacity at two of the three plants involved by 1992; the third is undergoing a 70-percent capacity increase.
