Multi-axial tests are better. (elastomeric materials used by car manufacturers) (includes related articles on material dynamic testing, Davenport Nene's Nenesoft MAS, multi-axial support software, multi-axis test machines)

Multi-axial dynamic testing is the latest development in characterising elastomeric materials. Such tests are also starting to be used for R&D and quality control tests under realistic load conditions on engineering components such as automotive vibration isolators.

"We are seeing a lot of interest throughout Europe in high frequency multi-axial testing," according to Randall Lennan, who deals witb elastomeric dynamic testing machines for MTS Systems GmbH, at the firm's European headquarters in Berlin.

There are systems available now which can test in two or even three axes, said Lennan. The object is to simulate dynamic load conditions actually encountered in service in vehicles, he added.
