Cooper-Kenda deal expands.(Cooper Tire and Rubber Co., Kenda Rubber Industries Company Ltd.)(Brief Article)

Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. has extended an off-take production agreement with Kenda Rubber to include radial passenger car tyres. Taiwan-based Kenda already makes crossply light truck tyres for Cooper.

Under the deal, car tyres from a new Kenda plant near Shanghai in the People's Republic of China will be supplied to Cooper's UK subsidiary Cooper-Avon, for sale into Europe under various brand names, including Cooper and Avon.

The latest agreement will enable Cooper-Avon to withdraw from the production of T-rated tyres and concentrate on production of higher performance tyres, according to a Cooper spokeswoman. The US group is also seeking to develop its position in Asian markets, she said.
