Work starts on Mitsui plant.(Mitsui Elastomers Singapore Pte Ltd starts building elastomer plant)(Brief Article)

Osaka, Japan--Mitsui Elastomers Singapore Pte Ltd (MELS), a subsidiary of Mitsui Chemical Inc. held a groundbreaking ceremony on 20 Sept for its new $100-million Tafmer elastomer plant on Jurong Island, Singapore.

When completed in December 2002, the plant will have a production capacity of 100 kilotonnes per annum, raising MCI's total Tafmer capacity to 200 ktpa. The facility is due to start commercial operation in April 2003.

Based on ethylene-alpha olefin copolymers, Tafmer elastomers are used principally as modifiers to improve the impact strength and flexibility of polyethylene and polypropylene.
