Carlisle Companies Inc.'s third quarter net earnings fell 61 percent to $10.9 million. This was despite a sales rise of 4 percent to $462 million, which reflected both increased construction material volumes, and acquisitions in its general industry and industrial components segments, Carlisle said.

Earnings from construction materials fell 7 percent against the third quarter of 2000, due to lower earnings from the Icopal roofing operations in Europe and competitive pricing. Again the decline came despite an 11 percent sales rise, to $133 million, after market share gains in the traditional rubber membrane business, and higher demand for thermoplastic polyolefin roofing, the firm said.
