Bayer 3-track approach to revamp rubber assets: restructure of German group's rubber business reflects varying technical requirements in the market. (Rubber news).(Company Profile)

From 1 Jan 2003, Bayer AG's rubber business will be merged with the group's plastics, polyurethanes and coatings units to form Bayer Polymers AG. The new subsidiary will have annual sales of around 11 000 million [euro]--about 20 percent from rubber--and employ around 22 000 people.

Within this structure, the manufacturing part of Bayer's rubber business will be split into three separate global operations: Butadiene Rubber/Butyl Rubber; Technical Rubber Products for materials including EPDM and HNBR (hydrogenated acrylonitrile-butadiene rubber); and Rubber Chemicals.

Bayer Polymers' global manufacturing units will supply product to a new three-tier marketing structure in each region: the Americas, Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA); and Asia...
