Cooper hikes stake in South Korean venture: Korean project should give the US automotive weatherstrip supplier a sharper competitive edge.(Rubber news)

Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. has increased its stake in a South Korean weatherstripping joint venture, as a first move toward making its automotive parts business more globally competitive. The manufacturer plans to use the company, formerly known as Jin Young Standard Inc., to expand its business in South-east Asia and manage a supply chain it is forming there to export products to other parts of the world, including the US.

A third part of its strategy is to work jointly with its South Korean partner, Jin Young Chemical Co., to take advantage of the growing Korean market, said Allen Campbell, a vice president and controller of Cooper-Standard Automotive.
