Lord Corp. has a new anti-corrosion coating system for use on metal parts, which are to be bonded to rubber. Called MetalJacket, the water-based coating is designed to replace primer and eliminate post-painting processes, according to Elizabeth Williams, technical service manager with Lord Corp. Europe, based in Manchester, UK.

Lord was demonstrating an automated version of the coating process, using Fanuc robots, on its stand at the IRC exhibition in Nuremberg, Germany, 31 June-3 July.

Traditional rubber-to-metal bonding processes start with metal parts being phosphatised, then primed, coated with adhesive, bonded and, finally, painted, Williams explained.
