Pirelli's involvement in motor racing-it now provides tyres for the Peugeot as well as the Subaru teams in the world rally championships-is a useful tool for promoting brand profile and position worldwide, Gori said.
It also offers a chance to experiment on radial tyres under under extreme conditions, Gori pointed out, in contrast to Formula 1 tyres which are not radial construction. For example, Pirelli's continuous compound mixing technology is used a lot for rally tyres, and the experience gained "will be transferred to production," Gori said.
Pirelli tyres do well here-recently gaining in the GT round at Imola, the No 1 spot with Saleen and No 2 and No 3 spot with Maserati, he said.
