Then: For most of the 1990s, Doug McLeod worked in the local computer industry--either with Northwest Internet (now part of LocalTel Communications in East Wenatchee) as a co-founder, or later with a computer networking business called Datavision (now closed).

By 1998, he was no longer involved in either venture, but was back in Cashmere contemplating his next move.

As growth of the Internet exploded in the late 1990s, so, too, did concerns about computer network security--and not just computers connected together on a network, but all devices connected together in a home or office network, such as computers, printers, laptops, scanners and other devices.

As McLeod said, "When we all got on the Internet, the neighborhood wasn't bad."
