What do you get when you combine good politics with financial reality? Paris Hilton being released early, that's what.
I know I might be going out on a limb here, but I think the real explanation behind the release is not race or privilege, but potentially something more damaging: Government making promises it can't deliver.
"Getting tough on crime" is great politics, regardless of party affiliation. It is a promise that almost all candidates make. When they get to Olympia or Washington, D.C., they follow through and pass new laws and toughen up sentences on old ones. Looks great on the press release and in the sound bites when reelection time rolls around.
