Tilco Vanguard's bumps may get national showing: fed changes may benefit area maker of safety products for intersections. (Updates).(Brief Article)

Jon Julnes of Tilco Vanguard Inc. got news from the government recently that could make him a lot of money.

The Department of Justice, the agency that oversees the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), has declared truncated domes the only acceptable form of detectable warnings to be used at street intersections and curb ramps throughout the country. The bumpy pattern under foot lets the visually impaired know that they are standing at a potentially dangerous intersection.

This means that Julnes, whose patented version of truncated domes look like miniature Nilla wafers on sheets of yellow heavy-duty sandpaper, may be in a position to garner multiple municipal contracts once the Department of Justice puts the new ruling in writing.
