NRG Energy to Refurbish South Australian Power Station.(Brief Article)

NRG Energy, Inc. (NYSE:NRG), Minneapolis, has received approval from its board of directors to refurbish its 240 MW coal-fired Playford Power Station, extending its operating life significantly beyond 2004. NRG acquired Playford in September 2000, as part of its acquisition of the Flinders Power Assets from the South Australian Government.

Refurbishing Playford, located in Port Augusta, South Australia, will help NRG to continue to provide the lowest cost South Australian electricity generation while improving operating performance. The refurbishment program includes significant environmental upgrades to the station to ensure its performance meets NRG's commitment to high environmental standards.
