Conoco increases needle coke production by 10%.(Brief Article)

Conoco (NYSE:COC), Houston, has announced that by using new technologies the company has increased needle coke production by some ten percent and that its Global Carbon business is evaluating other production process changes to gain additional increases.

"We have been very successful in increasing production capacities without the need for capital expenditures," said Richard R. Adams, manager of Conoco's petroleum coke technology. "Innovation is critical to remaining the global low-cost producer of quality needle coke."

Needle coke, produced from low-valued "bottom-of-the-barrel" refinery feedstock, is a crucial element in the manufacture of graphite electrodes used in electric arc furnaces in the steel industry.
